 Meet the band!
Ruckus
(do not touch or feed unless you are prepared to take them home and take good care of them)

Simon Costa (rhythm guitar & vocals) has been in bands since he was 16 - and STILL can't play lead!  Simon has written songs since age 13, when he composed a folk song to be sung "a cappella", about an inaptly named man called "Little John", a song for which he received detention from the English teacher who had requested the composition, for its' inappropriate content....something which Simon strives for, even to this day.

Born in London, England, Simon has been in California since 1984, when he saw the benefit of Sunny California over dreary England.  Now divorced, he has two wonderful children, Caroline & Phillip, who have already exhibited musical tendencies, to his delight. He lives in Fairfax, has no pets, and is housebroken.  Inspiration for his songwriting comes, he says, from love, lost love, unrequited love, lust, sex, power, money and basketweaving.  At least, I THINK that's what he said...

The easy way to spot Simon in a crowd is his shining dome, which he shaves regularly; he recommends Remington shaver products, and he's waiting for some kind of endorsement deal...  Maybe some hook-up with Geritol and Prep.H products... anyway, I digress; Simon will be happy to speak with you about gigs for the band - call him at the number on the front page, or just send Ruckus an e-mail...

The Mad Weaver

Mike McShea (lead guitar and vocals) has been playing guitar since 1974 and singing in an organized fashion since 1969. Early credits include A World of Music (1973) TV series in Baltimore, Md and the Baltimore Boy Choir 1973-76. Woo-hoo! Those were heady days! Inspired to play guitar listening to his dad playing and aunts and uncles singing with him, he claims influences too diverse to be believable. Hank Williams, Elvis, Crosby Stills and Nash, America, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Yes, Rush, The Bee Gees, Lou Rawls, The Staple Singers, all of Motown, it gets less likely the longer the list gets. On the other hand, you can hear bits and pieces of them in his style, so maybe... nah.

Landing in Northern California in the mid 90s chasing the .com dream with a company developing a PC based recording platform, Mike was using his extensive experience as a live sound engineer which includes 7 years with Audio Vision Engineering in Baltimore and a stint with Miller touring band Piece of Mind in the early 90s. Credits also include 5 years as sound engineer for Marin Shakespeare Co. Sound engineering paid the bills for a while, but playing, singing and writing were the passion that drove him back to the band scene. Now he splits his time caring for his 4 yr old daughter, following his wife, stage actress Cathleen Riddley, to theaters around the bay area such as ACT, Center Rep, Marin Theater Co, and many of the other top theater companies in the Bay Area, and playing, singing and writing with Ruckus. He also hosts an acoustic open mic on Monday nights and books the music schedule at a local music bar. Hobbies include pool, golf, Ants in the Pants, Hungry Hippo and basket weaving.

The Glad Weaver

Crisco Janda (drums and percussion) encouraged and taught by his mother, an accomplished drummer herself, taught him to play piano, guitar and drums. Drumming became his passion.  Although born and raised in Tiburon, his Native American heritage directly descends from the Passamaquoddy Tribe in Pleasant Point, Maine.  It was there, during frequent family visits to his reservation, that he pursued and mastered both performing and basket weaving, these being important parts of his family’s culture.

As an adult, upon returning from the Armed Forces, he continued to practice his craft, and through the years achieved an impressive resume.  Recording credits include Ed Earley, Sky Saxon and the Seeds, Pete Sears, Terry and the Pirates, and has performed with many more, including Slick Aguilar, Gregg Douglass and  Elvin Bishop.  An accomplished actor and member of the Screen Actors Guild for almost 20 years, Crisco can be seen in movies, television and commercials as well.  Some of these include Blood-in Blood-out, Getting Even with Dad, So I Married an Axe Murderer, American Graffiti, KTVU News and Weather, Tombstone Pizza, Milk Advisory Board, several documentaries and an HBO special called NEED.

Today Crisco and his wife live in Tiburon.  They have 3 wonderful grown children and an adorable granddaughter, who is learning to basketweave.  Still working The Silver Peso (October will mark 30 years as everyone’s favorite bartender), he is currently performing in several bands, including RUCKUS, Sweetiepie & the Doughboys and The Ed Earley Band.  In his free time, when there is any, he enjoys his community commitments including membership in The American Legion and E Clampus Vitus, as well as baseball, billiards and anything else he can hit with a stick.  When he eventually retires, he dreams of traveling with his wife and basket weaving.

The Beat Weaver

Rick Walt (bass and vocals) has been playing bass on and off the beat since 1965. He is a Marin County native, growing up (?) in Sausalito and currently resides in Santa Venetia. He has two grown children that he adores and hopefully adore him although they aren't through with their therapy sessions yet!

He has been in a myriad of bands in Marin and sang in the Fairfax Street Choir in the 70's. He has played at numerous metaphysical based conventions backing up many of todays gifted inspirational artists. He has toured the USA twice and in 2004 & 2006 he played in Ukraine from Kiev to the Black Sea (Who knew that Ukraine had a borscht circuit?). His main objective now is to develop the schizophrenia necessary to play and sing well at the same time!

His interests besides music are staying alive and metaphysical studies. While he has never woven a basket in his life, he concedes that there may be some meditative and, in Simon's and Mike's case,  therapeutic value in that endeavor. He does however take full responsibility for his part in this tangled web we weave.
